Even though the currents seemed to switch , still, with the tides, it seemed to Sylvie that she was swimming up stream more and more of the time as she passes through the wetlands. She became less distracted by the oily smells as the wetlands seemed to be absorbing some of the pollution like garbage, gasoline and so on. Although Sylvie didn't like a lot of what she saw, she also saw good things like birds--ducks, herons, sand pipers, and greater yellow legs-- vegetation and lots of small insects. Sylvie swam on, snatching occasional capelin and herring, avoiding the shadows of eagle wings.
